Electronic Throttle Control Misconceptions - Oil

If you’re considering getting electronic throttle control, it’s essential to know what the device can and can’t do. This article will dispel some of the myths about throttle controllers and give you the facts.

Electronic throttle control can do many things. For example,

Improve throttle response

Make your car feel more responsive

Improve your gas mileage

Help you get the most out of a performance tune

Make your driving experience more enjoyable.

However, electronic throttle control is not a magical device. Let’s look at a few misconceptions about electronic throttle control.

Electronic throttle control increases HP

The truth … No, that electronic throttle control does not increase horsepower. A performance part or tune will allow you to gain more horsepower than a throttle controller. If you’re looking for more, then you’ll consider other performance upgrades such as a cold air intake or exhaust system.

On the positive side…

Electronic throttle control can improve the acceleration of your car. This will allow you to have better throttle control which leads to quicker acceleration times. If you want to improve your 0-60 time or your quarter mile time, then a throttle controller is a great option.

Electronic throttle control is bad for your engine

The truth … Electronic throttle control is not bad for your engine. ETCs do not connect with any of your car’s coding modules. The Launch Pad controller only manages the electrical current in the gas pedal.

Throttle controls give you more control over your vehicle’s acceleration, but like many tools, it can be misused. If you do, then you can cause engine damage.

On the positive side…

Electronic throttle control can be quite beneficial, as it allows the driver to have more control over the car’s acceleration. However, like anything else, a throttle controller can be misused and can cause damage to your engine if not used properly. Remember to use caution and common sense when using electronic throttle control is an important rule, as with any other modification or upgrade to your car.

Electronic throttle control wastes gas

The truth … Electronic throttle control does not waste gas. These devices actually help improve fuel efficiency by allowing the engine to run more smoothly. Properly used, a Launch Pad electronic throttle control device even reduces CO2 emissions.

There is one catch …. If you press the gas pedal to at least 50%, the throttle controller will see that as 100% input, so if you keep in the habit of pushing the pedal to the floor, you will waste gas.

On the positive side…

The main benefit of throttle control is that it provides better control over the engine, which can lead to improved fuel economy and reduced emissions. There are some other ways that an electronic throttle control helps reduce fuel costs.

Electronic throttle control removes the need for tune-ups.

The truth is…  An electronic throttle control device does not replace an engine tune-up or fix all throttle-related problems.

On the positive side …

Electronic throttle control is a great way to reduce throttle delay and improve your car’s performance. When you install a throttle controller, you’ll notice an immediate difference in how responsive your vehicle is when you hit the accelerator. This can be a huge help when overtaking other cars on the road or just trying to get ahead in traffic. Not only will you get better performance from your vehicle, but you’ll also enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that you’re in control.

Finally, one of the biggest misconceptions, electronic throttle control will not void your warranty, change your engine or transmission, or make your truck fail an emissions test. It actually gives the driver more control over the throttling process … It does many good things, but not everything.

Electronic Throttle Control - Launch Pad - Tuning Mission

Chip tuning is still fairly misunderstood and confusing for most car owners. Chip tuning is just altering the engine’s fuel and ignition maps and changing the timing of variable valve timing, rev limits, and speed limiters. The simplicity of the installations and upkeep of the devices make tuning chips the easiest way to improve the performance of your vehicle.Electronic Throttle Control - Launch Pad - GMC Launch Pad

The need for these chips is because of the conservative nature of the factory tunes. Fuel and oxygen ratios are usually on the richer side, while ignition timing is usually slowed to assist in reducing the chances of detonation. Also, the redline and fuel cut of the engine are generally set at a level that the factory has decided is a reasonable compromise between performance and reliability.

The manufacturer’s point of view is that these adjustments that are being made by the ECU tuning chips could compromise the safety and reliability of the vehicle. But, we know that this simply isn’t true. Our chips do not put safety or reliability on the back burner. While the factories often disagree, this does not mean that it will void your warranty. Also, our chips can easily be installed and uninstalled repeatedly with no effect on your vehicle or the chip.

We recommend removing the chip before a vehicle inspection so as to not have to deal with the possible voiding of the vehicle warranty due to the manufacturer’s misunderstanding of our products.
